The cause of Mrs. Chaffins death was asthma, from which she had been a sufferer for some time. She retired in the best spirits Friday evening, and death must have occurred at about 4 o'clock Saturday morning.
Mrs. Chaffin was one of Cheyenne's pioneer women, having come to the city with her husband, Capt. John T. Chaffin, from Virginia, her birthplace, in 1869. She leaves beside her husband five children. Miss Eva Chaffin resides in this city. Mrs. Frith has been visiting for some time. Mrs. R.H. Wilson is with her husband, Col. Wilson, at Fort St. Michael, Alaska. Fred Chaffin, who resides in Denver has arrived in the city, and Howard Chaffin is expected from Chicago today. When he arrives arrangements for the funeral will be completed.
When the news of Mrs. Chaffin's death was spread yesterday morning much grief was manifested by her numerous friends. She was widely known in the city, and wherever known was loved. Her character was kind and beautiful, her disposition as sweet as the roses she loved to raise. Hough she had been closely at home for several years, she will be greatly missed by her friends and acquaintances, in whom her bright smiles and constant courtesy ever inspired visions of the sunny southland from which she sprang. Hers was a disposition such as is not often encountered in this generation and the sweet incense of her influence will linger through life with those to whom she gave her love and friendship.
The condolences of The Tribune, with those of the entire community, are extended to her bereaved husband and children.
