David immigrated at about age 26 from Scotland.
He settled in Buffalo, New York and became a machinist including working at Holly Mfg in Lockport, eventually owning his own machine shop Buffalo Valveless Steam Rock Drill and Repair in 1896 and, after moving to Lockport, he used a shed on his farm as a machine shop.
David married Mary Ann Rusbridge about 1874. They had 6 children: Elizabeth abt 1875, Ada 1877, William 1882, Mary "Mayme" 1885, Lucy 1886, and John abt 1889.
David declared in 1874 that he wanted to become a citizen and became a naturalized citizen in 1877
His wife, Mary Ann, died in 1891 at age 36 after breaking her back slipping on the icy stairs at their home leaving 6 children ages 1 to 16.
David and his son William age 10 went to Scotland arriving back January 17, 1893 where they apparently arranged for Elizabeth Padkin to come to America to marry David. Elizabeth arrived May 10, 1893. Their only child, James Ward, was born in 1894. The children loved Elizabeth and called her "mother".
David and his family immigrated to Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada in 1897 but were back in Lakeport, NY by 1902.
David is my Great Grandfather.
