My great-great grandfather, John Nelson Dooley was the son of Thomas Dooley and Rachael M. Hillman. He married first to Mary E. Wales in 1871. They were the parents of Anna Rosetta and Louie Dooley. He married second to Elvira Catherine Harbold on October 1, 1874 in Appanoose County, Iowa. They were the parents of Ruth Bertha Belle, Cordelia, William Thomas, Benjamin Frank, Johnnie V., Charles Cecil, Clinton Ellsworth, and Eulah Grace Dooley. He married third to Mary Frederick on March 24, 1902. I have no record of children born to this marriage.
A record that was written recording John Nelson Dooley's death said he died "Sound as a Hounds Tooth" after falling and breaking his hip, but the published obituaries state that he had been sick for a couple of months. I would tend to believe the newspaper articles more than the handwritten old records from relatives. Reasoning on this would be that I do not know how long after his passing they recorded those records and how strong their memories were at that time. Still, a man who lived 76 years, produced many children, and seemed to have lived a life of caring can still count a life well lived. May he rest ever in peace.
