WALNUT CREEK The Rev. Albert C. Slabach, 78, of Walnut Creek and formerly of Baltic, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at Walnut Hills Nursing Home, following a period of declining health. He was born near Baltic on Feb. 4, 1928, to Crist and Mary D. (Miller) Slabach and had lived most of his life near Baltic. He was the owner/operator of Slabach Lime and Fertilizer in Baltic. He served as pastor of the Longenecker Mennonite Church near Winesburg from 1958-1990. Albert served as an overseer for several Holmes County Mennonite Churches and was a member of the Walnut Creek Mennonite Church. On June 19, 1949, he married Mary Zuercher. She passed away on Aug. 24, 1967. On June 8, 1968, he married Bertha Hartman. Bertha passed away on April 11, 1994. He then married Rebecca Byler on Oct. 22, 1994. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Gloria (Vernon) Mullet of Sugarcreek; a daughter-in-law, Eva (Bill) Keim of Sugarcreek; grandchildren, Joshua Mullet, Jennifer (Chad) Willin, Eric Slabach, Kimberly (Nicolas) Mullet, Robbie (Karen) Keim, Maria, Heather, and Bethany Keim; two great-granddaughters, Kayli and Madison Keim; a brother, Monroe (Bea) Slabach of Orrville; five sisters, Ann (John) Hostetler of Evensville, Tenn., Edna (Bill) Ressler of Kidron, Alta Miller of Sugarcreek, Sue (Leroy) Mullet of Berlin, and Mary (Neil) Shrock of Phoenix, Ariz. In addition to his first two wives, he was preceded in death by a son, Myron Slabach, an infant son, Edwin Slabach, and a brother, Melvin Slabach. Memorial services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Walnut Creek Mennonite Church with the Revs. Ross Miller, Eldon King and Beau Hummel officiating. Family graveside services will be held prior in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the church.
