Jessie was born to Charles B. & Irene (Bates)Durant on a farm in Prairie Twp. in Jewell county. She attended Pleasant Prairie school. About the turn of the century they moved to a farm in Brownscreek Twp. She graduated from Jewell High school with the class of 1905. She also attended Kansas State Univ. & taught 3 terms of school, near her home.
on Apr. 22, 1908, she married Geoege L. Bowles, a neighbor school teacher & farmer. To this union two daughters, E. Maurine & F. Louise were born.
They lived on the farm where they started their married life for 58 yrs. In 1966 they moved to Mankato, Ks. They were privileged to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Soon after the death of Geo. she made her home with her daughters, Maurine, in Denver & Louise near Mankato. In Apr. 1974, she moved to a Nursing Home in Beloit, KS. where 3 months later she passed away.
She loved working with her flowers & her chickens.
