He was born May 5, 1906, in Holmes County to Melva J. and Malinda (Mast) Miller. He married Katie M. Troyer on Oct. 10, 1923. She died Sept. 25, 1978.
He was ordained a minister on July 27, 1937, and ordained Bishop on July 27, 1941. He retired from Walnut Creek Mennonite Church on Aug. 15, 1971. Following his retirement he spent several years in Florida serving as nursing home chaplain and did guest preaching. Upon returning to Walnut Creek he was a volunteer chaplain at Walnut Hills Nursing Home and many other area nursing homes.
He was a lifelong member of Walnut Creek Mennonite Church.
Surviving are a son, H. Blaine (Sarah) Miller of Snellville, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Dottie Miller of Walnut Creek; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Roscoe (Mattie) Miller of Walnut Creek and Lester (Barbara) Miller of Fresno, Calif. and a sister, Esther Hershberger of Walnut Creek.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a son, Keith Miller, a granddaughter, a great-grandson, two brothers, John and Payson, and two sisters, Faye and Mary.
Memorial services will be Sunday, March 23, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Walnut Creek Mennonite Church with the Revs. Ross Miller and Matt Hamsher officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 2-5 p.m. at Walnut Creek Mennonite Church.
