D. Edson was born to Hiram B. & Phoebe (Young) VanDusen in Iowa. His family moved a lot while he was growing up. He received his schooling in Iowa, Missiouri & Kansas. He came to Ks. to make his home in 1903, residing near Jewell City, for the rest of his life.
He was united in marriage to Zora Loucks, on Apr 2, 1913, at Beloit Ks. Zora brought a little girl, Zelpha, into this marriage with her. Then she & Edson were blessed with two more children - Velda & Ardyce.
His loving wife passed away after 4 years of marriage, leaving him, 2 babies & a step-daughter to carry on. Relatives took the girls to live with them, for a while.
Edson operated a garage in Jewell for a number of years. He was a quiet man but loved by all that knew him. He was happpy as long as those he loved were happy. Books were his favorite companions & he spent many hours with them.
