R.R. Hartford Dies Suddenly At Age of 59

Robert R. Hartford, 59, Tracy's Landing, died at about 8 o'clock this morning, Dec. 14, 1953, in Massena Memorial Hospital, where he was taken late Sunday night after he had been stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage.

Mr. Hartford appeared to be in his usual health Sunday. He and his wife and brother-in-law, Arthur L. Tracy, watched the television show in the evening. Just as he was about ready to retire for the night, he was stricken. It was
apparent that his condition was extremely critical.

Mr. Hartford was born July 18, 1894, on what has later been
known as the Lamping Farm on the St. Lawrence Middle Rd. His parents were Richard and Laura Judd Hartford, descendants of early Massena families. He attended district schools and Massena High School.

For a time he sold insurance, then worked at the aluminum plant, also operated a traveling store, but since 1933 he had been operating the Tracy farm at Tracy's Landing.

He married Miss Hazel Tracy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tracy, Mar. 17, 1920. The Rev. Mr. Eddy performed the marriage ceremony.

Mr. Hartford was a member of the First Baptist Church and of
Massena Lodge 513, F. & A.M. He served as a school director
for the township of Massena for a number of years.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Tracy Hartford, Latham, one
daughter, Mrs. Horace (Carolyn) Smith, Potsdam; one sister, Mrs. James Halliday, Massena; two brothers, Richard Hartford, Massena Center, and Harvey Hartford, Rome.

Funeral services are being planned for 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, the place yet to be announced.
