Skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways
All our lives through;
God hath not promised
Sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow,
Peace without pain.
But God hath promised
Strength for the day,
Rest for the labor,
Light for the way,
Grace for the trials,
Help from above,
Unfailing sympathy
Undying love...
I called her Ms Helton all my life even though I spent as many hours at her house as I did at home. She was a special lady and very good to me. In the mornings she would watch from across the street to make sure I got on the bus safely, she baked me cookies and took me in the attic to let me play with the toys left behind by her children. She never complained when I poked around her house, well almost never. She introduced me at the ripe age of 11 to "The Young and the Restless". She never missed an episode and I knew better than to make a peep during it. I got caught by her more than once picking flowers from her garden but she let me get by with it,and when I picked them and presented her with them, she always proclaimed them the prettiest she ever got and would put them in a glass of water. She must surley have thought this to be a great joke!
She was a precious lady and I greatly miss her. Some of my best childhood memories are with her.
