Donald G. Hill, age 77, of Ephratah, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a brief illness.

Mr. Hill was born September 18, 1929 in Ephratah, a son of the late Arthur F. Hill and Edna May Shutts Hill.

Donald graduated from Johnstown High School in 1946 and served his Country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1946 until 1948 and from 1950 until 1952 when he was honorably discharged. He was the recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and a Korean Service Medal.

Mr. Hill was a life member of the Ephratah Volunteer Fire Company, Ephratah Rod and Gun Club, Royal Mountain VFW Post 7097, St. Johnsville Masonic Lodge No. 611, and the Ziyara Temple Valley Shrine, Utica.

He was an avid hunter.

Donald was employed as a superintendent for the village of Canajoharie water works, retiring in 1993 after 42 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, June Cool Hill, with whom he was united in marriage on September 24, 1949; three sons, Gary (Cindyann) Hill of Cheektowaga, Mark (Angela Hoyt) Hill of Ephratah, and David Hill of Ephratah; two daughters, Susan (John) DeWitt of Ephratah, and Sandra Townsend (Darrin Palmateer) of Ephratah; grandchildren, Nathan (Ashley) Hill, Brandon Hill, Adia (Pat) Cotter, Jaime (Brandon) Parker, Daniel Hill, Kevin Hill, Anthony Hill, Amanda Ponte, Ken Ponte; great-grandchildren Isaiha Ponte, Torrin Ponte; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by several siblings.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. from the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.

Friends and family may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The Masons will have a service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Ephratah Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in Donald's memory to Mountain Valley Hospice or to the Ephratah Reformed Church.
