Hedwig (Hattie) M. Jirele, 85, life long resident of rural Steele County died March 8, 2009, at Cedarview Care Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial is set for Saturday, March 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Litomysl, with the Rev. Ruben Spinler celebrating the morning mass. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Friday, March 13, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Rd.). There will be a Catholic Daughters Rosary recited at 4 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. The visitation will continue one hour before the funeral liturgy at the church on Saturday.

Born Hedwig Matylda Wacek on July 3, 1923, in Aurora Township the daughter of Anton and Anna (Pechacek) Wacek. She attended school in District 95 in Summit Township. She met and married Victor Jirele on June 9, 1947, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Litomysl. The couple made their home on Victor's family farm, raising eight children. Hattie was a farmer's wife and homemaker for all of her life. Besides her family, she also enjoyed growing her large gardens. She was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and St. Helena's Guild. Her life interests included embroidering, baking, cooking, canning, old time music and dances with her husband.

Hattie is survived by her children James (Sue) Jirele and Barbara Jirele, both of Owatonna, Kathy (Joe) Bartish of Richfield, Mary (Larry) Stroup of Blooming Prairie, Gary (Mary Delzer) Jirele of Blooming Prairie, Dianne (Rick) Peterson of Montgomery, Janet (Tim) Jesperson of Prior Lake, Robert (Naomi) Jirele of Medford, along with her 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters Ann Hrdlichka of Owatonna and Agnes Heaney of California.
Hattie is preceded in death by her husband, Victor, seven brothers and one sister.

Memorials are preferred to St. Isidore's Catholic School at Litomysl or the donor's choice. Brick-Meger Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
