Funeral services for Samuel Dunn Hughes, 80, were held this afternoon at 1:30 at the Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. David Burright and the Rev. Richard Miller officiating.
Burial was in Graceland cemetery.
Mr. Hughes died Friday morning at the Stratford Care Center where he had been a resident since June 22 of this year.
Samuel Dunn Hughes, 80, son of William H. and Virginia Dunn Hughes, was born Jan. 27, 1897, in Kentucky. He was reared and educated at Fountain Run, Ky. He farmed in Kentucky until 1920 when he moved to Iowa.
In 1929 he was united in marriage to Emeline Neese. The couple farmed in the Stanhope area. He is survived by his wife, one son, William R. Hughes of Stanhope, and four grandchildren, Roger, Craig, Jim and Holly.
He also is survived by two brothers and one sister, George B. Hughes, J. L. Hughes and Monta Hughes, all of Bowling Green, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.
He attended the Stanhope United Methodist church where for many years he sang in the men's choir.
