She was the daughter of Harve and Zona (Thomas) Dean. Dessie married Lester Kegley on July 24, 1927. Four daughters and one son was born to this union. They both were members of the United Pentecostal Church. Dessie and her husband Lester owned and operated Kegleys Grocery Store for over 40 years on US 60 East near Gates.
