John E. Owen of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, October 23, 2002, at Bloomington Hospital. Born on December 8, 1922, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Emmett and Kate E. (Ellis) Owen. He married Maxine Cummings on August 24, 1947, and she survives.

Surviving with his wife are one son, Steven Owen of Irvine, TX; two daughters, Tina Wilson of Terre Haute, IN, and Nancy Bruce of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Vivian Chastain, Ruth Johnson, and Violet Duncan, all of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren: Stacey Kokes, Shelley Owen, Jenny Church, Jamie Wilson, Michael Bruce, and Devin Bruce; two great-grandchildren, Zack and Kyle Kokes; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Vera Jane McPike; and two brothers, Russell and Ferrell Owen.

He was a retired mail carrier for the Bedford Post Office and a veteran of W.W. II, serving with the the U.S. Army. H attended the Englewood Baptist Church and was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post #33.

Services for John Owen will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 26th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with the the Rev. David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded bye members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33.
