A Life Remembered ~ Robert Tracy Haring

The following information was contributed by Carole Nurmi Cummings, a Dutch descendant from the 1600s and a cousin.

When Robert Tracy Haring was born on 29 June 1926, in Ridgewood, Bergen, New Jersey, United States, his father, James Smith Haring III, was 39 and his mother, Marguerite Blanch Requa, was 36.

He died on 28 March 1975, in Ridgewood, Bergen, New Jersey, United States, at the age of 48, and was buried in Brick Church Cemetery, Spring Valley, Ramapo, Rockland, New York, United States.

My Uncle Bobby was a casualty of war. He was a casualty of World War II. Following an episode of malaria, he was affected mentally and was sent home. He would never be able to have a family or support himself. He lived with his mother until he died at 569 Northern Parkway in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

I remember visiting every other summer and would watch him talk to people who were not there. I always would hear him whispering under his breath.

He did have a couple of enjoyments in his life. He enjoyed a good pipe and could be seen going for walks. He loved watching Sunday devotionals on the television.

At the time of his death, he had been complaining of flu like symptoms. After becoming gravely ill, he collapsed on the floor and was rushed to the hospital where he died suddenly from appendicitis.

I always felt sad for this uncle. He was just a toddler when his father left the home. His parents divorced. His father was a Civil Engineer, but the family always seem to have little money once the father left. My mother would tell me stories of the lack of funds and hardship being raised in an affluent area with little money for lovely clothes that she so desired.

War and divorce certainly does take it's toll on many!

I love you Uncle Bobby. I will see you and mother soon!
