Cecil Ross Cox, 87, of Warrensburg, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2009, at his home.

He was born March 8, 1922, in Willow Springs, the son of William Cox and Mary Nease Cox.

He and Margaret Marie Ward were married on Aug. 5, 1944, in Willow Springs.

Mr. Cox was a printer by trade. He had been a foreman of the print department for the Times News in Twin Falls, Idaho, the Northern Wyoming Daily News in Worland, Wyo., and the Daily Star-Journal in Warrensburg. After retiring in 1972, he began his own job print shop in Warrensburg.

Mr. Cox was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was involved in the Battle of the Coral Sea on the USS Lexington, where he was wounded. He was later involved in the invasion of the Philippines. He was a gunners mate, first class.

In addition to his wife, Margaret, he is survived by two sons, David Cox and his wife, Patricia, of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Steven W. Cox and his wife, Tricia, of Warrensburg; a daughter, Mary Lynn Cox, and her husband, Allen, of Warrensburg; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers: Wayne, Glenn, Russell, Clarence (Dick), Howard and Dale.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home, Warrensburg, with the Rev. Jerry Basye officiating. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Crossroads Hospice in care of the funeral home.
