Luverne Bernard Felling was born on August 26, 1930 at Belgrade, the son of Michael and Helen (Kuefler) Felling. He grew up and attended school in Sauk Centre.

On August 16, 1950, Luverne was united in marriage to Dellas Robidoux at Fort Riley, Kan. Luverne served with the U.S. Army for 21 years, earning the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He served in Japan, Okinawa, Iran, Vietnam and various stateside posts.

After Luverne retired from the service out of Belleville, Ill. in 1969, he and Dellas made their home on a farm near Brooks until 1989 when they moved into Brooks. After retiring from farming, Luverne worked as a foreman in the welding shop at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls. He also worked at various other jobs.

He was a member of the Plummer American Legion Post and Knights of Columbus and enjoyed tinkering with old equipment and talking with people.

Brooks - Luverne Felling, 71, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at his home in Brooks.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 11, at St. Felling Obit Joseph's Cath-olic Church in Brooks with Father Timothy McGee officiating. Casket-bearers were Luverne's grandsons, Nicholas Waldal, Heath Rosten, Shayne Waldal, and Scott Waldal. Interment was in the church cemetery with Johnson Funeral Service of Red Lake Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Luverne is survived by his wife, Dellas; three daughters, Delyne (Gerry) Mattison of Plummer, Cheryl (Don) Scott of St. Hilaire, and Kim (David) Panozzo of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a son, Kenneth of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Yvone (Ken) Korte of Roseville and Lynette (Dan) Jesh of White Bear Lake; three brothers, Ronald (Pat) of Highland, Ind., Mike (Judy) of Sauk Centre, and Harvey (Darlene) of Bloomington.
