Armitage - Mary Ellen Peterson Armitage, Who Was Mayor Of Folsom From 1979 To 1986, Died Saturday At Her Home. She Was 77. Mrs. Armitage Was Born In Shreveport And Moved To Folsom In 1944. She Began Teaching At Folsom Elementary School And Was Named Supervisor Of Instruction For St. Tammany Parish School Board In 1956. During That Time She Implemented The First Special Education Program For St. Tammany Parish. She Retired From The School System In 1975. As Mayor, She Was Responsible For Writing The Grants That Financed The First Sewer And Water Systems For Folsom, And She Planned And Directed The Town's First Beautification Program, Planting Many Of The Flowers Herself. Survivors Include A Daughter, Suellen A. Eyre, Of Phoenix; A Son, Thomas M. Armitage III Of New Orleans; A
Brother, Jinx Peterson Of Vicksburg, Miss.; A Sister, Sally P. Brandt, Of Richardson, Texas; And Two
Grandchildren. A Funeral Will Be Held Today At Noon At E.J. Fielding Funeral Home. Burial Will Be In Ellis Cemetery In Franklinton, La. Visitation Will Be Today From 10 A.M. Until Service Time. Times Picayune 04-18-1993
