Mary A. Myers married Henry Whitaker. Mary A. Myers Whitaker was born to Wealthy Fuller Myers and John Myers in Mahaska County, Iowa on April 27, 1854. Mary was one of five children. Her siblings were Cyrena (wife of F. L. Jackson of Missouri) Roena M. wife of William Reed, Oliver J. Myers ( wife was Dell Leathers) and Sarah J. Myers who died at a young age.
Mary A. Myers and Wm Henry Whitaker were married after 1870 since both of them were living with their parents in the 1870 census. Mary’s husband’s name was William Henry Whitaker but was always known as Henry. His father was James Whitaker and his first wife Jane Smith. After his mother’s death, James married Jane Fuller McBroom who was a sister of Wealthy Fuller Myers. So, Henry’s step-mother and Mary’s mother were sisters but Henry and Mary were not blood relatives.
Henry and Mary would have two children. They were Mattie Whitaker (1876-1879) and Elmer Whitaker (1878-1952). They lived in the Rose Hill, Mahaska County, Iowa area. Mary dies in May of 1880. Her death records say she died of consumption which is now called tuberculosis. In 1880 census, Elmer is living with his father. By 1900 census, Elmer is living with his grandparents John and Wealthy Myers.
Henry marries Adda “Addie” Murphy (1863-1945) who was the daughter of Gilbert Wilson Murphy (1819-1870) and California Mary Lemaster (1823-1886). They would have two sons named Warren (1889-1891) and Ward (1891-1899). They live in Missouri for a time and then move to Pueblo Colorado. There is an old picture of their son Ward when he is a small boy taken in Colorado. Addie puts a message on the back of the picture telling about their life in Colorado. Henry and Addie are buried in Missouri.
