Maisie Marie (Oswalt) Adams, widow of Afton R. Adams (1909 -1968), died February 16, 2002, at the Harmony Manor nursing home in Winnemucca, after five months ailment, and after spending two years residence at the Beehive Community Home.Maisie, a humble and well-respected member of the Winnemucca community since 1943, was born October 7, 1911, in Sunnyside, Wash., to parents Georgia and Frances Oswalt. She had two brothers, Frank and Howard, and a sister, Bernice, now all deceased. The family moved numerous times mainly in Oregon and Idaho, trying to farm and to build houses during the Depression years. Maisie met Afton in 1929 at Albion State Normal School near Burley, Idaho, and they married in 1933. Both taught school in Nampa, Idaho. Sharon Adams (Bankofier) was born to them in 1936, but did not outlive her mother (1936-2001). Maisie is survived by two sons, John F. Adams (Fairview, Mont.) and Stefen (Berkeley, Calif.).

During the Great Depression years Maisie and her family learned numerous card games, including bridge, which became very important for her, and in 1959 founded a bridge group, which still continues today. She was also active in Boosters Club, Senior Center, and the library.

In addition to raising her children, Maisie also helped Afton work a shoe-repair business on Bridge St., and Adams' Sonoma Inn Store during the late 50's and 60's.
Maisie is survived additionally by Sharon's family: Donald Bankofier (Winnemucca), and grandchildren Tami Ashdown (Gardnerville, Nev.), Ronald Bankofier (Minden, Nev.), and Teresa Benjamin (Littleton, Colo.)plus 6 great grandchildren.

At her request of cremation, there will be no funeral services, but a family memorial is planned for later this spring.
