Ohio businessman whose investments included the Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper. A prominent member of the Democratic Party, he served as chairman of the Ohio Democratic State central committee. In 1882, he moved to Washington, D.C where he was a successful real estate investor. His son, John Roll McLean, took over the Cincinnati Enquirer in 1881 and in 1905 purchased the Washington Post.
