Born May 14, 1925, in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, he had lived in DeSoto for 40 years. He was self-employed as a construction worker (built trusses) and was the owner of L&L Woods, a rafter building company until he retired in 1989. Earlier, he was owner and operator of Don's Garage in DeSoto, KS.
He was a member of DeSoto Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II (Pacific). He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also served as a former Fire Chief of the DeSoto Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his third wife, Glenda, of the home; three sons, Gary Donn Ranum, Washington, DC, Michael Richard LaCoursiere and Kerry Lynn LaCoursiere, both of DeSoto; a daughter, Debra Kay Maher, Wilmington, Delaware; a stepson, Larry Smith, Raymore, Missouri; his mother, Grace, DeSoto; a sister, Melvina Rye, Osage Beach, Missouri; his first wife, Leona Eileen Ueland-Ranum of Janesville, Wisconsin; and eight grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his father, Frank; and his second wife, Madeline Smith LaCoursiere.
Visitation was from 7 to 8 pm tonight at the Bruce Chapel in Gardner. Funeral was Thursday at 10 am at the chapel followed by burial at the DeSoto Cememtary.
