Aretta E. Brooks went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, February 22, 2007, at East Liverpool City Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born in East Liverpool, OH on March 22, 1930, a daughter of the late Howard E. and Louise (George) Pitts.

After living in California for 27 years, she returned to this area. While in California, she was a statistical recorder for Greentree, Inc., and then a coordinator for the Anaheim Christian Center. Aretta is a 1948 graduate of East Liverpool High School, a member of the East Liverpool Alumni Assoc. and was a member of the Cornerstone Pentecostal Church in Barberton and had been attending Destiny House in Calcutta. She loved to travel, listen to music and read.

Her husband, Lewis E. Brooks, whom she married on July 24, 1949 died on December 9, 2000.

She is survived by three daughters, Rhonda Lindbergh and her husband, Bill, of Hawaiian Gardens, CA, Trudy Slayton and her husband, Ivan of Mountainburg, AR and Lisa Ceneviva and her husband, Bud, with whom she has resided, a brother, Kenneth Pitts and his wife, Phyllis of Godfrey, IL; two sisters, Pat Davis-French and her husband, Ralph of Clairmont, FL and Jackie Ketchum, Bill of Lisbon, OH; a brother-in-law; Phillip Dawson and his wife, Kathy of California; a sister-in-law, Linda Romo and her husband
Dan of Laredo, TX; 10 grandchildren: Robert Woodbury, Raeleen Woodbury, Regina Woodbury, Rachael Woodbury, Shelly Joyner, Jason Slayton, Tim Slayton, Kenneth Slayton, Dustin Brooks and Christine Brooks-Parker; 21 great grandchildren: twins Randy & Aaron Rabidue, Lacey Rabidue, Sondra Rabidue, Jessica Woodbury, Ryan Woodbury, Bobby Woodbury, Jack Caldaron, Casandra Caldaron, Alexanda Caldaron, Elizabeth Caldaron, Tyler Thompson, Chase Joyner, Madison Joyner, Liam Fuentes, Donovan Castro, Selina Brooke Slaton, Savannah Castro, Melissa Slayton, Kenneth Slayton, Jr., Dillon Slayton,; several niecea and nephews; her best fried, Judy Bennett and her constant companion, Cain, her dog.

Besides er parents and husband, a grandson, Brian Slayton, preceeded her in death.

Sevices will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Monday, February 26, 2007 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Steve Huskey of Destiny House officiating. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Burial will follow in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
