Arlan R. McFarland, 76 of rural Oslo, Minnesota died Friday, May 26, 2006 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Arlan McFarland was born on Dec. 23, 1929 in rural Oslo, Minnesota the son of Ernest and Mrytle (Ryan) McFarland. He grew up in Bigwoods Township and attended country school, Oslo High School and Crookston A.C.. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War.

He married Esther Haglund in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Oct. 21, 1955. They made their home in Bigwoods township of rural Oslo, Minnesota. He farmed with his brother Weldon till 1990 and they continued to live on the family farm.

He loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed farming, horses, Lake of the Woods and singing and playing his guitar.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife Esther of Oslo, Minnesota and his children, Brenda (Dean) Qualley of rural Moorhead, Minnesota, Terrie (Ron) Clemetson of rural Grand Forks, North Dakota, Tammy (Dennis) Daley of rural Grafton, North Dakota and Tim McFarland of rural Oslo, Minnesota. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren , 2 brothers, Duane (Arliene) McFarland of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, Weldon (Roma) McFarland of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, a sister -in-law Ruby McFarland of Grand Forks, North Dakota and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Vernon and sister-in-law Elaine.

Services will be on Wed., May 31, 2006 at 2:00 PM at the Zion Lutheran church of Oslo, Minnesota. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 after 5 PM with a 7 PM prayer services and one hour before services all in the Zion Lutheran Church in Oslo, Minnesota.
