Robert Cochran 1923-2008
Robert W. Corcoran, 85, of Danville died Saturday at Thomson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore. He was a former longtime resident of McDowell Place of Danville.
Born March 14, 1923, in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Francis Patrick and Cecilia Kottig Corcoran. He graduated from Purcell High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bob served in the U.S. Navy as an aviator in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and he was a 1948 graduate of the University of Cincinnati. He retired from United Parcel Service as national customer service manager in 1972 after 25 years of service and moved to Danville. After his retirement, he was a farmer and local businessman. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
He served the community in many capacities. He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club, former member of the Danville Country Club board of directors, Parish Council member, and a former chairman and board member of the Boyle County Soil Conservation Committee. He was also a board member and finance committee chair of Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, and a member of the board of the Salvation Army.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Ferris Corcoran, and by two sons, John Casey Corcoran and Stephen Patrick Corcoran.
Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Corcoran Clark of Danville and Ann Corcoran (Michael) Nourot of Benicia, Calif.; his son, Micheal (Marty Hogan) Corcoran of Ashland, Ore.; a brother, Eugene P. (Doris) Corcoran of Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Caitlin Clark of Guadalajara, Mexico, John Casey Clark of Danville, Mary Beth (Alex) Griffin of Bitburg, Germany, Katie (Brad) Williams of Lexington, Christopher Corcoran of Houston, Texas, Lois (Bryan) Baeta, Nicholas Nourot and Gabriel Nourot, all of Benicia, Calif., and Matthew Corcoran, Jessica Corcoran and Allie Corcoran, all of Portland, Ore., and two great-grandchildren, Logan Baeta and Anna Claire Williams.
A funeral mass will be held 1 1 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Patrick Fitzsi-mons as celebrant.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Stith Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials be sent to SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church or St. Meinrad Seminary, St. Meinrad, Ind.
