Rev. Mother Maria Bruno Thoma, SSND

(Born Karolina Thoma)

Generaloberin

Arme Schulschwestern v.U.L.Fr.

School Sisters of Notre Dame

Hauptmutterhaus

München, Deutschland

1909 bis 1928

Mother M. Bruno was the 5th Superior General of the Congregation of the Poor School Sisters of Notre Dame.

Mother Bruno followed Mother M. Innozentia Loibl in office. Elected for life for her second term, Mother Bruno surprised the delegates to the 1928 General Chapter by resigning from office. (She is the only SSND Superior General to have done so.) At the time of her resignation, Mother Bruno explained that the Congregation needed vigorous leadership that she was no longer able to provide. Mother Bruno was 82 at the time! Mother Bruno was the last Superior General to have known the Foundress, Mother Theresa, albeit as a child not a religious.

The Chapter elected Mother M. Almeda Schricker to succeed Mother Bruno.
