Eva F. Mast. 95 of Sugarcreek passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Walnut Hills Nursing Home following a long illness. A daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Weiss) Pershing, Eva was born November 16, 1913 in Tuscarawas County.
Eva graduated from Strasburg High School in 1932 as Valedictorian of her class, and on April 4, 1935, she married the love of her life, Truman Mast in Wheeling, West Virginia.
They never had children but was close to her remaining seven nieces and nephews, and especially to her niece from Sugarcreek, Bertie Showers who became her "caregiver" and was like a daughter to her.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Strasburg but enjoyed quilting with the First Mennonite Church Ladies in Sugarcreek and the Shanesville Lutheran Church quilting ladies. Other activities she enjoyed was bowling in a Ladies Town and Country League in Sugarcreek, and one of her favorite hobbies was crocheting afghans and many items for friends and family. She and Truman loved playing their favorite card game, Rook, with her husband's sister and brother.
Eva is survived by seven nieces and nephews and their families. Two brothers preceded her in death, Russell and Sterling, as well as two nephews and two nieces.
Friends may call on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. an hour before the service at the Smith-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek. A Celebration of her life will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 10, 2009.
