Mrs. Harriet Gagnon
Mrs. Harriet Gagnon of Baker township, well known resident of Stevens county for many years, passed away on Sunday, October 13. Death came after an illness of three years, and occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nick Theis, with whom she had made her home. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from St. Mary's church in Chokio, the Rev. M. Billmayer officiating. Interment was in the cemetery at Donnely. Deceased was born in St. Charles, Mo. on Feb. 1, 1867. When she was five years old the family moved from St. Charles to Miltonvale, Kansas, where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Jessie Gagnon at Aurora, Kan. on Feb. 15, 1885. They continuied to live at Miltonvale until 1903 when they moved to Marshall, Minn. In 1924 the family came to Stevens County and took up their residence in the Donnelly community. Mr. Gagnon passed away on October 14, 1933, and since then Mrs. Gagnon had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Theis, excepting only for a period of two years when she lived with her son, Philip, at Ortonville. Mrs. Gagnon is survived by four sons and seven daughters: Eugene of Vermillion, S. D., Joe of Alexandria, Emery of Benson, Philip of Ortonville, Rena (Mrs. Philip Regnier) of Donnelly, Alberta, Canada, Albena (Mrs. Oscar Campion) of Chippewa, Wis., Dora (Mrs. Nick Theis) of Chokio, Cena (Mrs. Leon Legare)of New Auburn, Wis., Louise (Mrs. Clifford Henrichs) of Moxee City, Wash., Mary (Mrs. Henry Peterson) of St. Paul, and Ruby (Mrs. Elmer Hamm) of Ortonville. In addition to her husband, four children preceded her in death. Mrs. Gagnon is survived also by 75 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
