Samuel was married on April 11, 1853 in Lafayette Co., Missouri to his first cousin, Mary Ann Matthews, daughter of James Mathews and Nancy Caulfield. Samuel and Mary were laid to rest at the McGinness Cemetery, where Mary's parents and sister, Eliza McGinness are buried.
