Leland Larson, 60, died on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN.

Leland Clyde Larson was born on June 4, 1949 to Roy and Petra (Aune) Larson in Thief River Falls, MN. He was baptized on August 7, 1949 at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke, MN and confirmed there in 1963. Leland attended elementary school in Gatzke through eighth grade and attended Middle River High School, graduating with the class of 1967.

After high school Leland attended college at Northland Community College and Moorhead State University. After college he entered the United States Army where he proudly served in Vietnam from 1970 - 1971.

When Leland returned from his time in the service he met and married the love of his life, Linda (Larson) Larson. They were united in marriage on October 7, 1972 and to this union they were blessed with two children, Julie-Ann and Richard.

Leland and his family made their first home in Minneapolis where he worked as a realtor. In 1980 they moved to a farm in Gatzke where he farmed until 1986. He started his career with the United States Postal Service in 1981 as a letter carrier. Recently Leland proudly celebrated 30 years of service with them. He was a member of the American Legion Post 444 in Middle River, MN and previously worked there as the Gaming Manager.

He was a fun-loving and caring man who treasured his family and friends. It has been said that if you didn't know Leland upon meeting him, you would be his friend soon after. He enjoyed many outdoor activities including golfing, fishing, camping and hunting with the "Larson Bunch." Leland also liked to spend time playing cards, attending sporting events and driving around the areas where he lived and worked. He held memberships with the Grygla Jaycees, Gatzke Sportsman's Club, Middle River Sportsman's Club and Karlstad Golf Club. Leland was the boys and girls Junior High basketball coach and girls softball coach for Middle River and Greenbush.

Leland is survived by his loving wife, Linda of 37 years; his children, Julie-Ann (Scott) Hanlan of Sarles, ND and Richard Larson of Champlin, MN; grandson, Devin Hanlan; brothers and sisters, Renee (Gerald) Stanislawski of Brooklyn Park, MN, Wayne (Janice) Larson of Gatzke, MN, DelRay (Janice) Larson of Gatzke, MN and Lynette (Cal) Lunemann of Brooklyn Park, MN; brother-in-law, Danny Gajeski of Robbinsdale, MN; aunts, Emma Anderson of Middle River, MN and Evie (LeRoy) Davidson of Moorhead, MN; brothers-in-law, Paul (Linda) Larson of Independence, MO, Larry (Vicky) Larson of Mogadore, OH, Robert (Lisa) Larson of Mahnomen, MN, sisters-in-law, Barbara Bruno of Thief River Falls, MN, Sandra (Curtis) Jacobson of Thief River Falls, MN and Mary (Jim) Jacobson of Zapata, TX; mother-in-law, Donna Larson of Mahnomen, MN; many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Myrna Gajeski; father-in-law, Richard Larson; several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke, MN with Rev. Katie Koch officiating. Burial will follow in Moose River Cemetery in Gatzke.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday.
