Gordon was the son of Dewey Gerald Vanhoose and Mary Louise Castle.

On May 17, 1946 Dewey married Agnes Pauline Pelphrey in Johnson Co., Kentucky.Gordon VanHoose, 80, of Volga, died Sunday Sep.23 2001 in Paul B. Hall Medical Center in Paintsville.

Mr. VanHoose was born Dec. 23, 1920, in Manilla, a son of the late Dewey and Mary Louise Castle VanHoose.

He was a World War II Army veteran and owner of Trading Post in Staffordsville.

Surviving are his wife, Agnes VanHoose; two sons, Eddie VanHoose of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Greg VanHoose of Staffordsville; a daughter, Kimberly Tackett of Staffordsville; two sisters, Viola Virginia Phillips of Fort Myers, Fla., and Lenore Diffee of Winchester; and
a grandchild.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Paintsville Funeral Home by the Rev. Tobe Wheeler. Burial will be in Johnson County Memorial.

Friends may call today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
