I'm not sure what type of woman it takes to successfully raise 7 children, 6 of them boys in a tiny, 2 room, house but she did it. She also had to face the worst nightmare of any parent, the loss of her infant son, Johnnie.
Evelyn and Charlie enjoyed an active social life in the Biloxi community. They belonged to social clubs and there are many photos of them with their friends putting on costume parties and enjoying life.
It is said she changed and never recovered after Charlie passed away. In March 1984 she was diagnosed with lung cancer and quickly slipped away.
