Shirley Florence Edelstein, 84, of Zelienople, passed away early Friday morning, March 27, 2009, at Passavant Retirement Community surrounded by her sons and family.

Born September 26, 1924 in Newburgh, NY, she was a daughter of the late Israel and Jeannette Gilvan. She had lived in Zelienople since 2006, having previously lived in Beaver for 10 years.

Shirley had retired as a medical transcriber and supervisor at the Montefiore Hospital, Bronx, NY, and was a volunteer with The Medical Center, Beaver. She had been a 30-year member of the Hospital Workers Union #1199.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Sidney Edelstein, in 1999; and a sister, Pearl Myrow.

She will be sadly missed by her family, including her three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Diane Edelstein, Stephen and Elena Edelstein, and Martin and Jane Edelstein; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy) Stephenson, Jeannette Edelstein, Michael Edelstein, Joshua Edelstein, and Elizabeth Edelstein; and two great-grandchildren, Brendan and Lily Stephenson.

As per Shirley's wishes, cremation services will take place. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 3:00 p.m. in the Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver. The service will be conducted by Father Scott Homer of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Beaver.

The family would like to extend the utmost gratitude to the staff at Passavant and also to the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) Hospice for the compassionate care they gave to Shirley.
