The people of Watkins were saddened when it was learned that Mrs. Mary Brummitt Grissom, wife of Mr. Rufus Grissom, was dead. She fell " Asleep in Jesus" at early dawn on March 21, 1905, after a long and painful illness of six months. Although it had been known for months, after consulting the best doctors at a hospital North, that her condition was serious her entire family were crushed when the end came. She leaves a bereaved husband, 4 daughters and 6 sons to mourn her departure. Mrs. Grissom was a devoted wife and mother. Almost her last words were that death had no horrors for her as she longed to fall into that peaceful sleep free from pain, but that she hated to leave her loved ones here. And died hoping that it might be one united family in heaven. A great comfort was such a death to her loved ones, with an aim in life now to strive and live so as to carry out their beloved one's wish.
Mrs. Grissom was for 35 years a member of the Antioch Methodist Protestant Church, from this church on March 22nd the funeral was conducted by Rev. G. W. Holmes, the pastor. After a lovely tribute to her life and comforting words to loved ones she laid rest in the grave yard at that place. A large number of friends attended to pay their last respects to their beloved friend and to place flowers, tokens of love, on her grave. Our sympathy goes out to the entire family, and may they in their grief be able to say "not my will, but thy will O Lord be done."
