ROBERT WESLEY McHENRY, VETERAN, PROFESSOR:

Robert Wesley McHenry, great grandson of Robert and Matilda (Hewitt) McHenry passed away at his home March 7, 2008 in Marina del Rey, CA. He was 84.

Mr. McHenry was professor emeritus of political science at Montgomery College in Rockville, where he was known to use humor to engage his students. A resolution acknowledging his retirement in 2003 described him as a passionate teacher who was always willing to take time outside of class to explain the intricacies of Locke and Montesquieu.

McHenry graduated from U.C. Berkeley in Communication and Public Policy. Graduate work at Boston University Harvard, the School for Advanced International Studies of John Hopkins University and a political science program at George Washington University in Washington D.C.

McHenry served in the Army in World War II as a cryptographer and a naval officer in Communication Intelligence during the Korean War. He spent a couple of years at the Pentagon as an Intelligence Research Analyst. During this time he met his late wife who was in a similar line of work. They both had Top Secret Clearances. After ten years in government McHenry and wife went into college teaching. He was determined to teach the importance of democratic ideas coupled with strong national defense and taught at Montgomery College for 37 years.

Robert is the great grandson of the original Robert, grandson of Oramil and son of Robert Albert McHenry and his second wife, Katherine Jones McHenry. He is survived by his half brother Jack McHenry. His wife and soul mate, Ginny, passed away in 2001. Mr. McHenry will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery.

Thank you to Diana for this living tribute to Bob.
