Arthur Paul Ansley, age 72, of Lovilia, passed away Friday evening, March 5, 2010, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.
Paul was born on November 1, 1937 to Arthur Edward and Eldora (Thomas) Ansley in the Lovilia area. Paul grew up in Lovilia and graduated from the Lovilia High School, class of 1955. After high school he worked construction and at Maytag before serving his country in the Army and the Marine Reserves. When Paul returned, he married Janice Roberts in the Presbyterian Church in Albia on February 18, 1962. They moved to Burlington and he worked at a pest control company which he later owned. Paul then worked at Case before moving back to Lovilia in 1970. He worked at L & S Tools as a tool and die maker until his retirement.
Paul was very active all his life. He gave a lot of his time to the Lovilia community. He was on the Lovilia City Council. He served as Mayor for a couple terms and was one of the founders and builders of the Lovilia Community Betterment building. Paul really enjoyed woodworking. He taught wood carving classes at Indian Hills Community College and at the White Oak Gallery in Albia, which he co-owned with his daughter, Dawn. He was a member of the Chariton Valley River Wood Carving Club. Paul also enjoyed being outdoors, flower gardening, mowing, and spending time with family, friends, and his grandchildren.
Paul is survived by his wife Janice, their children, Brian Ansley (Carol) of Indianola; Melinda "Mindy" Harris (Brian) of Albia; Dawn Maughan (Kevin) of Albia; and Dana Osborn (Steve) of Newton; 14 grandchildren, Kellie , Laura, and Jon Ansley, Justin Harris, Jessi Marie (Jesse) Ledbetter, Julianne, Janean, Joy, Josiah Harris, Jake, Caleb, Nathan Maughan, and Heather and Spencer Osborn. Paul is also survived by his mother-in-law, LaRue Anderson of Albia.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Edward and Eldora; one sister, Dolores Purdy; and one grandson, Joseph Maughan.
A memorial has been established to the Lovilia Community Betterment Building.
