Dennis "Dexter" LaFollette,
52, of Piner, passed away Monday, February 15, 2010 at St. Elizabeth in Florence. Born on November 24, 1957, he was the son of Raymond LaFollette and the late Eula Caldwell LaFollette. He was a 1975 graduate of Simon Kenton High School and a member of the Goshen Christian Church. He farmed his entire life, raising beef and dairy cattle and tobacco and his dairy was rated a gold standard. He was a member of the Dairy Farmers of America, an honorary member of the Kenton County Fair Board and a former volunteer with the Piner-Fiskburg Fire Department. His major hobby was tractor pulling and he was an active member of the Ohio Valley Tractor Pullers Association and a Battle of the Bluegrass Pulling Series participant. He and his sons were the creators of the popular "Piner snowman." Preceding him in death in addition to his mother was his wife, Edie Zerhusen LaFollette, who passed away in 2005. Surviving in addition to his father are his sons, Justin LaFollette and Aaron LaFollette all of Piner; sisters, Sandra Turner of Speedwell, Tenn and Rhonda Reeves of Florence; fiance, Jan Sheaffer of Piner and her daughters, Kelly Stephens of Versailles and Katie Sheaffer of Lexington; along with numerous extended family and friends. Services were held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Independence, officiated by Bro. Marshall Hills. Music was provided by Bea Hills and Kendra Stahl. Pallbearers were his sons, Justin and Aaron LaFollette, David Grizzell, Jimmy Grizzell, Mike Jenkins, Brent Moore, Billy Nichols and Gary Spegal. Spencer Grizzell and Jared Jenkins also assisted. Interment took place at the Independence Cemetery.Memorials are suggested to the Goshen Christian Church, 1773 Bracht Piner Road, Morning View, KY 41063.
