Mr. J T Carter, Sr., Dies Near Houlka; Funeral Yesterday
Mr. J T Carter, Sr., long time resident of Chickasaw County, passed away at his home south of Houlka Monday afternoon at four o'clock following a brief illness. Mr. Carter suffered from a relapse of influenza with complications.
Mr. Carter was a member of one of the pioneer families of Chickasaw county. When a youth he was married to Miss Bettie Johnson, to which union a large family was born.
Funeral services were held in the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. E M Shaw in charge. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery beneath a wealth of beautiful flowers.
Surviving are his widow and five children: Mrs. A W Brazda of Richwood, West Va., Miss Beaufort Carter of New York City; Mrs. Maurice Shields of Baton Rouge, La.; Messrs. Merrill and J T Carter, Jr., of Thelma.
