Wilbur F. Walters, 82, of Elgin, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000 in Manor Care Health Center.
He was born July 24, 1918, the son of Frank and Esther (nee Schwantes) Walters in Sharon, Wis. He married Lucinda Bonkoske at St. John's Lutheran Church on Oct. 13, 1940.
Wilbur was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Elgin. He was a WW II Veteran, serving in the Eighth Armored Division of the US Army from August 1944 to May 1946. He was a spray painter by trade, and worked at various companies including the Watch Case Factory and Dukane Industries. He was extremely athletic and particularly proud of the no-hit no-run game he pitched for the Illinois Watch Case company team.
Survivors include a daughter, Vicky (Phillip) Semenchuk of Rockford; a son, Daniel (Susan) Walters of Elgin; grandchildren, David (Amy) Semenchuk of Rockford, Steven (Charlotte) Semenchuk of Rockford, Erik Semenchuk of Rockford and Matthew Walters of Elgin; a brother, Romaine (LuAnn) Walters of Rockford; a brother-in-law, Donald and sister-in-law, Ruth Bonkoske of Elgin; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucinda of Sept. 16, 1986.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and before services Thursday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church, Elgin are appreciated.
