OBIT: CAP BURCHETT PASSES ON
Humansville Star-Leader on Thur., Feb. 10, 1949, p. 1,

Granville Sissel or better known as "Cap" Burchett, son of Granville and Judah Burchett, was born near Humansville, Mo., Aug. 8, 1861. His immediate death was caused by severe injuries by a severe fall 6 days previous. He was a Dimmitt Memorial Hospital when he passed away to his eternal home Thursday, February 3rd, 1949, at the age of 87 years 5 months and 6 (26) days.

He had spent his entire life in this community. He retired from the farm and moved into Humansville in Feb. 1933.

On Nov. 14, 1886, he was married to Eliza Della Hutton who preceded him in death May 29th (1944). They had a rare privilege of celebrating 50 years of successful marriage on Nov. 4, 1939 (Nov. 14, 1936).

To this union were born 6 children; 1 daughter, Mrs. Maude Kearney, passed away June 7, 1937, and the surviving children are: Mrs. Ethel Eckert of Lamar, Colo.; Mrs. Grace Wilcox of Lansing, Kans.; Charley G. Burchett of Maywood, Calif.; Mrs. Ora Simenwitz (Simonowicz) of Winchester, Kans.; and Mrs. Hazel Skerko of Leavenworth, Kans.

He was converted and joined the Baptist Church at an early age. During early manhood he was ordained a deacon of the church, a duty to which he was faithful to the end.

For the past 65 years he has been a member of the Odd-Fellows Lodge which conducted graveside services.

He leaves to morn his departure besides the above-named children, 1 sister, Mrs. Sadie Eddleman of Lamar, Mo.; 21 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild, a large number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

It can be truly said of "Cap" Burchett as the Apostle Paul said in 2nd Timothy 4:7, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 7, 1949, at 2 P.M. at the Baptist Church with Rev. J.E. Jackson officiating minister. Interment was in the Humansville Cemetery under auspices of the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 310, F. M. Primm Funeral Director in charge.
