In April 1955, this country girl went to Bordeaux France with 4 children from age 9 mths to 4 years. She later said she felt it was the best time of her life. She visited such memorable places like the grotto at Lourdes. She would often speak about the crutches and canes hanging on the grotto walls, left by people who had been cured. In the next ten years she and James traveled from France to White Plains, NY to Boston, Mass. to Lawton, Okla. and back and forth to Miss. during this time they had 4 more children.
She divorced James in January 1967 and married Gordon Collins in Nov 1967. She and Gordon had two children.
Gordon died from burns he received when their home caught fire in Nov. 1974.
Faye eventually moved to Memphis in 1995, where she could be closer to her doctors and a daughter who helped care for her.
She truly loved her children. She said one day,she wished it was okay to say she loved and liked all her children the same amount, but liked them in different ways. Just as she did her siblings. It is very difficult for a mother of 10 to reach out to all her children.
Faye's father, Lonnie, whom she loved dearly, died in 1990 of cancer and heart disease. Her mother died just two months before she did.
