HAVANA - Harold E. Potts, 64, of 14200 SR 78, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Havana. The Rev. David Byrd will officiate. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 tonight at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Neurological Institute Gamma Knife Center, or to the Division of Crippled Children on behalf of Katelynn Barker or Dawson Daniels for medical treatment for Leukemia.
He was born May 29, 1938, in Havana to Sheldon E. and Vivian V. Corzart Potts. He married Mary L. France on Oct. 20, 1957, in Havana.
Surviving are his wife; his father of Petersburg; three daughters, Shella (Byron) Barker of Havana, Bethany (Todd) Keeler of Ipava and Kimberly (Wayne) Wells of Topeka; 10 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; one sister, Janet (Larry) Thompson of Petersburg; one half brother, James (Linda) Potts of Petersburg, and one half sister, Brenda (Hugh) Whalen of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his mother; one infant daughter, Marri Beth in 1958; one sister, and two infant brothers.
He owned and operated Potts Plumbing & Heating in Havana from 1973 to 1978. He then worked from 1978 to 1984 with International Transport as an over-the-road truck driver. He next worked with the State of Illinois as a plumbing inspector from 1984 until his retirement in January of 2003. He also worked with Quality Driveway Inc. of Goshen, Ind., transporting new camping trailers to dealers throughout the United States and Canada.
Potts was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Havana; Odd Fellows; Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 136 in Springfield; State of Illinois AFSCME, and the Havana Ducks Camping Club.
He was a civil defense volunteer.
