State of Issue: Virginia
Date of Birth: Sunday January 09, 1949
Date of Death: Wednesday April 19, 1995
Est. Age at Death: 46 years, 3 months, 10 days

Published in the Oklahoma Today magazine, Winter 1996 issue:

Richard Allen was the ultimate sports fan. He could recite the score of an NFL game planed 15 years ago and name the team that won the 1963 World Series. He would have the TV on one game the volume turned off and be listening on the radio to a different game, said his daughter.

Friends, family, and co-workers all knew has favorite team was the Redskins and his least favorite the Dallas Cowboys. (A Barry Switzer fan, he warned a little to the latter after Switzer became head coach.)

Many believed coaching was his real calling. Yet he was also a meticulous 22 year employee at Social Security, one of the few who could quote information upon request. He knew it, marveled co-worker Barbara West. He didn't have to go look it up. He was a perfectionist living in an imperfect world, observed co-worker Richard Dean.

Beloved by colleagues, Richard bowled, snow skied, and collected Roseville pottery. On weekends (when not watching sports) he cooked Chinese food, watched cooking shows, and antiqued.

In 1966, he received a full scholarship to Panhandle State in Goodwell, where he was co-captain and center of the football team; he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social studies and physical education. A Vietnam era veteran, he served with the 65th Military Police Platoon at Dugway, Utah.
