World War II
USS Houston
Note: Little was known about the fate of the USS Houston and crew for over 9 months. The tombstone shows he died March 22,1943, most likely because the family did not know any of the details at that time. Now, after the war, more details are known: The USS Houston went down in action against a Japanese Invasion Task Force on the south coast of Java during the Battle of Sunda Strait. Of the original crew of 1,061, 368 crew members who made it to shore and were captured by the Japanese, 291 would survive to the end of the war. B.T. Albin is now listed as being killed in enemy action on 1 March 1942 and not surviving the battle. His rank was a Fireman 2nd Class (F2C) in the U.S. Navy.
