ANTON NYTES.
Anton Nytes, a successful agriculturist of Wilson township, who owns one hundred and fifteen acres of well improved and fertile land on section 30, where he engages in general farming and dairying, is one of the enterprising and thrifty citizens Germany has contributed to Sheboygan county. Anton Nytes was born in August, 1841, and is a son of Michael and Josephine Nytes, also natives of Germany, who emigrated to the United States in 1846, coming direct to this county. The father, who was an agriculturist, first bought some land just north of St. George which he cultivated for several years, then disposing of it he purchased a farm in Lima township, where he was living when he passed away at the age of sixty-five years.
As he was a child of only five years when he accompanied his parents on their removal to the United States, practically the entire life of Anton Nytes has been passed in the vicinity where he is now residing. He attended the district schools of Wilson township in his boyhood, but being a member of a family possessed of only limited means his educational advantages were meager as his services were required about the farm. Following the death of his father, which occurred when he was a youth of seventeen, he left home and for five years thereafter worked as a farm hand. At the end of that time he went to the northern part of the state and for two years worked as a teamster in the region of Lake Superior. Returning to Sheboygan county he once more took up farm work, following this occupation for two years. As he was thrifty and temperate in his habits he accumulated sufficient money to buy sixty acres of land in 1867, and engaged in farming on his own account. Later he extended the boundaries of his farm by the addition first of twenty acres and subsequently of forty, making his holdings aggregate one hundred and twenty acres, about five of which have since been taken by the railroad and electric line. In connection with his general farming for many years Mr. Nytes owned and operated a threshing outfit not only in Wilson township but throughout Sheboygan county, where he is widely known. He is enterprising and diligent in everything he undertakes and owns a well cultivated and valuable property. In connection with his general farming he has always raised such stock as was needed about the place and he also engages in dairying to a certain extent.
For his wife and helpmate, Mr. Nytes chose Miss Josephine Bock, the event being celebrated at St. George's Roman Catholic church in Wilson township, and they have become the parents of thirteen children, six of whom are deceased. The living are as follows: Michael and August, both of whom are residing at Kaukauna; Mattie, who is at home; and Mary, the wife of Adam Holtzshu, also of Kaukauna; Rosa, who married John Kluster, of Sheboygan'; and Anna and Josephine, who are living at home.
The family are communicants of the Roman Catholic church, holding membership in St. George's parish, Wilson township, and Mr. Nytes is a stanch democrat in his political views. He has made his own way from early youth and such success as has come to him in the development of his interests is entirely attributable to h'is own efforts, as he has been favored with no assistance other than is accorded every man of recognized worth and responsibility.
