John Daniel Walters #53002203 was awarded the Dr of Arts degree by Kansas State Agricultural College in 1904 where he was a member of the faculty for 52 years. He was head of the Department of Industrial Design in 1877. For several years he was in charge of the college orchestra. At the time of his death he was professor emeritus of architecture. He was born in Switzerland, where he taught public school before coming to the U.S. in 1867. He got a job on board the ship to help pay his passage. He married Maggie Kienast 10 Dec 1874 in Manhattan KS. He died 30 Sep 1929 at the home of his daughter Mrs. Alfred Umbehr, where he lived after the death of his wife.
