He married Wilhemina Sarilla Welsch in 1898. They had three children: Mary Katherine in 1900, Bessie W. in 1901 and John Leslie, Jr. in 1905. The family moved from Lambertville to Trenton between 1910 and 1914. John lived in the Trenton area for the rest of his life.
John held many jobs. He was a rubber mill worker in Lambertville, the head chef at a cafe in Stockton, Hunterdon Co. and a hotel barkeeper in Lambertville. He then worked as a trainman and yardmaster for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Trenton and a restaurant proprietor in Trenton. When he passed away, he was the caterer for the Blakeley Laundry cafeteria in Trenton.
