Children: Sarah Witcher, Benjamin Witcher, Polly Witcher & James Witcher, Jr.

Military service:
While residing in Pittsylvania County, Virginia he enlisted in 1779, and served six months as a private in Captain William Witcher's Company, Colonel David Mason's Virginia Regiment. Was in the Battle of Stono (South Carolina) and was discharged July 23, 1779: He again enlisted in the summer of 1780, served 3 months in Captain George Parrish's Company under Major Cloyd, in the Virginia Troops, was in a battle with the Tories at the Shallow Ford of the Yadkin River (North Carolina) and was discharged October 22, 1780.

He was allowed pension on his application executed on August 30, 1832 , while residing in Smith County, Tennessee.
