Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon for Billie Ray Parker, 10 years old, of Martha, who drowned Saturday in Upper Laurel Creek.


The services were held by the Rev. Gallie Isaac in Old Hood Baptist Church.


He was a son of Drew and Betty Jo Ferguson Parker, and was a student at Flat Gap School.


A neighbor assisting the parents in searching for the boy found the body in the small stream.


The youth apparently drowned about noon, L.B.Young, Lawrence County deputy coroner said.


Burial was in the Sloan Cemetery at Blaine.

PARKER, Billie Ray 1951-1961

Billie Ray Parker, 10 year old son of Drew and Betty Jo Ferguson Parker of Martha, KY, who was found drowned Saturday in Upper Laurel Creek about 25 miles west of Louisa, was buried in Slone Cemetery at Blaine following funeral services Monday at 2 p.m. from Old Hood Baptist Church with the Rev. Gallie Isaac officiating. The body was found Saturday at 2 p.m. by a neighbor who was assisting the parents in a search for the boy. L. B. Young, a deputy coroner of Lawrence County, said the child apparently had drowned in the small stream about noon. An investigation is in progress and a coroner's inquest will be held later according to J. J. Jordan, Lawrence County Sheriff, who is making the investigation. The boy was a student at Flat Gap School. Additional survivors include the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lundy Ferguson of Martha.
