DEATH CLAIMS C. F. BARBER WEDNESDAY

Hon. Charles F. Barber, 77 years of age, died at St. Luke's Hospital, Jacksonville, Wednesday night at ten o'clock, where he had been for several weeks under the best of medical care.
In Mr. Barber's death Baker County looses one of its leading and most promment Citizens. He had been in failing health for about ten years, and the end was not unexpected by his family and many friends.
The writer had the privilege of being intimately acquainted with Mr. Barber since 1905, when we first came to Baker County and secured his support and endorsement of the purchase of the Macclenny Standard. He was a loyal friend and ever, ready to lend his aid to any one in distress, and his many deeds and acts of kindness won for him friends by the hundreds all over this section of Florida.
As a political leader Mr. Barber showed exceptional ability. Serving the county and State in numerous capacities. He was a member of the legislature from Baker County for three terms and State Senator from the 29th District for two terms, both positions were filled by him with signal ability and distinction. Mr. Barber was also prominent in the business affairs of the county, and was at one time time one of the largest cattle owners in the State. He also established the Turkey. Creek Nurseries famous in this section of Florida for many years. Charley Barber was a man that, to know was to like and to esteem--a Christian and friend to humanity in whose heart flowed the real milk of human kindness. We-wish we had.-the ability to picture Mr. Barber's many good traits as they should be, but feel that all who knew him appreciated him and his friendship.
Mr. Barber was a native of Baker County and had spent his entire life here, being a member of one of the oldest and most prominent families in Florida. He is survived by three sons, J. E. Barber, Jacksonville, C. M. Barber and J. W. Barber, Macclenny, two daughters, Mrs. F. F. Dorman, Jacksonville and Mrs. N.
